The UKCA marking (UK Conformity Assessed) is an updated requirement that requires British companies to mark products made for sale within the UK. This replaces the European Union’s CE Mark following the UKs’ exit from the EU.

New Deadline

The UKCA marking implementation has been operational since 1 January 2021. It can now be used in replacement of the CE marking. However, to provide businesses with flexibility, the government will bring forward legislation that would continue to allow recognition of the CE marking and the reversed epsilon marking for most goods that are being placed on the market before the new deadline at the end of 2024. This will allow businesses to transition to the new UKCA marking over a period, without having to make any sudden changes.

Great news for power supply manufacturers and products in the UK as the deadline for businesses to use the UKCA mark has been extended. In a recent update from the UK government, it was shared that the CE marking, and reversed epsilon marking can continue to be used on GB products until 31 December 2024.

Industries affected

The UKCA marking requirements are primarily used for various products and industries – though they do cover some additional regulations. Industries that require these extra rules include but are not limited to medical devices, rail transportation, cableways installation and much more.  The technical requirements or essential requirements you need to meet for the UKCA marking will depend on what products-specific legislation there is for your product.

Different regulations exist for when the UKCA mark come into play for some industries. For instance, manufacturers of medical devices are allowed to use either the UKCA marking or CE markings until 30th June 2023, which is much sooner than most other industries.
