What does the “IP” in IP68 mean?

IP is the name of the standard that was drawn up by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC 60529) to determine how resistant an electrical device is to freshwater and common raw materials such as dirt, dust and sand.

What does the “6” in IP68 mean?

The “6” after IP is the rating the IEC assigned a unit for its resistance to solids. This means that Ideal Power’s product is dust and dirt-tight – meaning dust and dirt can not enter the product.

What does the “8” mean in IP68?

The “8” in IP68 means that the product is suitable for continuous immersion in water with a depth of more than 1 meter (Conditions/depth must be specified by the manufacturer.
